The Garden
The Law Enforcement Memorial Garden will remind us of the ultimate sacrifice. It is a place for those to grieve; honor loved ones; a place for young law enforcement officers to pay tribute to those who came before them; and, for the community, a place to reflect on the life lived by the officer.
This unique memorial is constructed behind the Kansas City Regional Police Academy and the Shoal Creek Patrol Station to honor lives lost in Clay, Platte, Jackson and Cass Counties, as well as state, federal, railroad and conservation officers.
The Memorial Garden is a Wall of Honor, listing all of the lives lost in the line of duty in the Kansas City Metro area. Unlike other memorials the Regional Law Enforcement Memorial Garden will utilize technology to tell the stories of who the person was behind the badge. We want those in our community to know not only how the person died but how they lived. We contacted these officers loved ones to learn more about the man or woman who made the ultimate sacrifice. Additionally we have a section of the Memorial Garden website (kclemg.org) where the stories of all those are archived forever. Those of us behind the Memorial want the community to know who these men and women were who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Beyond the Wall of Honor there will be a place to gather and reflect. Families can celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Candlelight Vigils can be held to mourn and honor the lives lost. School groups on field trips will have a place to sit and learn about those who died protecting their communities.
The Memorial continues with a walking path surrounded by trees donated by friends and families of loved ones. The path leads you to a private area to appreciate the sacrifice and lives lost.
The Memorial Garden will be open to the public and will be a place of reflection as well as a teaching tool for future generations.
